La Vie Looks Of The Week

Some spot on ladies from the past week in fashion.

Sienna Miller in floral and leather, Kate Moss in fur, Mandy Moore in Grecian, Whitney Port in plaid

1. SIENNA MILLER toughens up her floral maxi with a tough leather jacket = perfect balance

2. KATE MOSS rocks Anita Pallenberg-esque fur. That better be faux, missy…

3. MANDY MOORE goes goddess in a flattering asymmetrical cut.

4. WHITNEY PORT mixes patterns successfully with a dash of lumberjack and a bit of sailor.

5. JESSICA ALBA has been perfecting the art of the casual fall ensemble recently!

6. MARY LOUISE PARKER makes separates mod with opaque black tights and boots (my staples).

7. JOY BRYANT is pretty and boho chic with some patterns and messenger bag perfection.

8. KATE MOSS makes black interesting with fringe and moto boots. Perfect for class.

What have you been wearing this week?

Peace,

The Sun Crochets The Clouds With Yarn So Fine

Rocking its way off of art supply shelves and onto clothing racks, crochet was in this season seen on runways of A détacher and Nina Ricci. Avoid looking like a grandma by keeping the trend simple, structured and contemporary and weave it seamlessly into your wardrobe. (Pun definitely intended.)

Some bohemian-infused crochet outfits.

Rachel roughens up her sweet crochet cardigan and mild khaki shorts with tough boots, and follows the match the bag to your shoe rule. Though, I don’t think the rule usually applies to Doc Martens. Forever 21 takes the Dazed and Confused route adding a flannel and cut-offs for an overall stoner-chic vibe. Nicole is idyllic in her House of Harlow jewelry and adorable dress. Similarly in the Lookbook ensemble, the black tights and cami make for a striking contrast with the white knitting.

Forever21 again places the crochet in an outdoorsy ’70s context, worthy of a festival or open-aired concert. Wearing the knit over a color adds interest to the look. Mischa appears to have created her dress from a tablecloth, but in a completely positive way. Her Jimmy Choos are spectacular, as well. Free People spins the white crochet dress into a more prairie-chic look adding moccasin boots and knee socks. Mandy Moore breaks up all black with her white vest. I dislike the graphic tee underneath but approve of her attempt on the whole.

She’s A Vengeful Little Goddess

When in doubt, it seems starlets opt for a Grecian dress for the red carpet. Well, I’m not complaining. From the draping details to the roped accents, I love this look and have seen it cyclically move through the fashion world. Like the picture above, the style looks anachronistically good. Goddess dresses are in this season, seen in the collections of Zac Posen, Marchesa, and Alberta Ferreti, among others. These looks make me wish I lived in ancient Greece…with a cell phone, and an iPod, and maybe Twitter. But still.

1. KEIRA KNIGHTLEY looks amazing in jewel tones (think: green dress library scene in Atonement).

2. JANUARY JONES in a different era of style than her ’50s Mad Men garb.

3. NICOLE RICHIE wears excessive neck detailing to lend the perfect bohemian balance.

4. MISCHA BARTON reminds me why you can leave it to her to stand out from the pack of every trend.

5. DIANE KRUGER played Helen of Troy and can definitely launch 1000 ships in this dress.

6. BLAKE LIVELY aka Serena has a goddess name that deserves a goddess train.

7. NATALIE PORTMAN in Lanvin is one of my favorite red carpet looks ever.

8. JENNIFER ANISTON has been in a black rut for far too long.

9. MANDY MOORE proves that the Grecian style doesn’t have to be shaped like a toga.

10. MISCHA BARTON should remember that when she isn’t trying too hard to look quirky, she looks like this: original but not over the top.

11. MONIQUE LHULLIER SPRING 2010 shows how the print can make the design so original.

12. NICOLE RICHIE makes for a nice change with the pony since most opt for a curly updo.

13. L.A.M.B. exemplifies how to wear this look on the street.

14. AMANDA SEYFRIED antiquates the little black dress.

15. JOY BRYANT is a vision in white.

16. ISSA FALL 2009 combines safari with Greek.
