- Milla Jovovich for Isabel Marant
What is one thing that boho chic and Parisian chic have in common? The answer to this question is effortlessness. Effortless dressing is something the whole world has envied of French women for decades with their perfectly placed scarves and their European air of nonchalance. So what’s an American girl to do when we are culturally less-inclined to look effortless? The easiest choice is simply to look to a French girl’s designer du joir: Isabel Marant. This designer is worn by French and American it-girls alike, with followers like Rachel, Sienna, Kirsten, and Lou Doillon.
The brand is known for the strange combination of minimalist and yet bohemian style: short and casual dresses, omnipresent boots, tailored coats, loose tops, and breezy scarves. In the Spring 2009 collection, the color palette was broad and the fabrics were light. Perfect for a stroll in the park on a sunny day…be it in Paris, Boston, or New York. And of course, the carefree mantra carried over into fall where Marant incorporated oh-so-Parisian black for more cool weather appropriate ensembles. The collection is the perfect example of how to avoid a Pretty Woman reenactment regarding thigh high boots, of course. Emulate the looks with a coffee in hand and your best confident face on and you might just be mistaken for a chic French tourist. I’m pretty sure that would make my day.
