And Then They Splashed Into The Deep Blue Sea

Beautiful Greek island architecture and sea[Photo source: Marcel German]

Greece is one of my dream destinations. The seaside towns look breathtaking and like an ancient scene that will thankfully never catch up with the modern world. The colors of the buildings and the clothing derive from the natural Grecian surroundings using blue inspired by the sea and white inspired by the sand.

After watching Mamma Mia! for the second time last night, I fell in love all over again with the flowing summery clothes that Sophie/Amanda Seyfreid wore in the movie. Yes, her wedding dress was undeniably unforgettable, but it was her day to day style of patterned blouses, worn in shorts, swimsuits tucked into long skirts, that caught my attention. The outfits lack fuss and often even accessories in general. They scream I am ready and willing to jump in the water the minute I get too hot or ready to run through a field to pick flowers. I loved this comfortable boho vibe which is the perfect style to emulate during the baking heat (never mind the fact that it won’t stop raining in Boston).

Another movie that was set partly in Greece was the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (1 and 2). Lena played by Alexis Bledel spent her part of the saga on a beautiful Greek island where she too had a very signature style. She sported long skirts and breezy button downs with a bit more structure than those of Sophie. Hers were a bit more tourist than native but by the end of the movie her carefree curls and sunny glow made her look every bit the Grecian girl.

Now if only I could spend my days in some beautiful island in Greece too!

Bohemian wave, beachy waves, kinky waves, hippie waves. Call them whatever you want. But, this is the look that shows up time in and time out on the red carpet, runway, and my head when the summer comes. It’s easy and pretty if executed correctly. Happy scrunching!

One Prairie Outpost Between The Dream And The Real

The prairie trend was seen all over the runway, especially in Marc Jacobs Spring collection as he translated his tried and true grunge vibe into frontier chic. This is a great way to try the floral trend of this season, as well, with the calico and flowery dresses and skirts.  In a favorite magazine of mine I saw this trend being called “foho” or a mix of ‘60s boho and ‘70s folk.  It’s all about the sweet and simple silhouettes of light camisoles, sweeping dresses, flowy skirts. The trend needs to be tempered by some modern such as some hardware on those rugged boots or a distinctly 2009 fringed purse. And don’t forget to layer on the chunky turquoise and coral jewelry. Reminds me a bit of a shoot I saw about Argentine cowboy style; check out the sunflower picture below!

I would prefer this look with some flip flops but the boots are very frontier-esque
