The Little Things

[source]

Sure, the big things are great. They’re what we live for. But getting from Point A to Point B would be a whole lot more lackluster if not for all the wonderful little things in life.

Like staying up too late…but then seeing the sun rise.

Like putting on warm clothes straight from the dryer.

Like the way the world looks the day after a snowstorm.

Like laughing with a stranger.

Like waking up on time without an alarm.

What little things brighten your day?

Though Not In So Many Words

Between text messaging, tweeting, blogging, Facebook wallposting, and the like, I feel as if I’m constantly having more and more opportunity to think before I “speak.” Being a bit of an impulsive fast talker, I actually think social media’s unlimited time window makes me use my words less. My attempts somehow pile up in the form of blogpost drafts, over-140-character tweets, and other forgotten messages. Does anyone else ever feel as if social networking causes you to let ideas slip through the cracks?

You Are Not Your Bra-Size, Nor Are You the Width of Your Waist

“You are not your bra-size, nor are you the width of your waist, nor are you the slenderness of your calves. You are not your hair color, your skin color, nor are you a shade of lipstick. Your shoe-size is of no consequence. You are not defined by the amount of attention you get from males, females, or any combination thereof. You are not the number of sit-ups you can do, nor are you the number of calories in a day. You are not your mustache. You are not the hair on your legs. You are not a little red dress.

You are no amalgam of these things.

You are the content of your character. You are the ambitions that drive you. You are the goals that you set. You are the things that you laugh at and the words that you say. You are the thoughts you think and the things you wonder. You are beautiful and desirable not for the clique you attend, but for the spark of life within you that compels you to make your life a full and meaningful one. You are beautiful not for the shape of the vessel, but for the volume of the soul it carries.”

I hereby adopt this as my new body image mantra. Quoted from this eloquent guy who dubs himself an amateur photographer. He might want to add writer to the resume.

The Reminder

[source & via]

It’s important to take a reality check sometimes. When reminded of all of the needs we have covered, it makes all of those wants and qualms less relevant. Continually guilty of this, I need to remember that all of the missed trains, failed quizzes, spilled drinks, canceled plans, coveted luck, and regretted actions are definitely not as life-shattering in hindsight.

Summer Sprucing Part I

[source]

I don’t know about you, but my summer is in some serious need of some sprucing, which has got me in the activity-brainstorming mode.

Summer Sprucing Part I

1.Celebrate the little holidays.

Bastille Day (July 14): Wear your most Parisian stripes and skip the Kashi for a breakfast croissant.

Ice Cream Cone Day (July 23):  This one’s easily celebrated.

Julia Child’s Birthday (August 15): Take a cue from Julia and make something from scratch.

2. Take a class.

Think less Accounting 101,  and more Photography/Pilates/[insert desired talent here] 101.

3. Benefit from a clean room.

Detox your closet and sell the excess on Ebay. Can’t sell those ill-fitting jeans? Make jorts!

4. Send care packages.

Avoid wallowing in jealousy and send some love to friends abroad–be it Colorado or Costa Rica.

5. Be frugal without noticing.

Because really–who likes to feel cheap?

Peace,
